The Site Safety Officer (SSO) is a vital component of any law enforcement agency’s clan lab safety program. The SSO has the knowledge and responsibility to implement the site Health & Safety Plans and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations at clan labs. This is an exercise-intensive program designed to prepare students to perform equipment maintenance, develop health & safety programs, and oversee first responder actions at clan labs. The course outlines the documentation, reporting, and regulatory requirements needed on-site to meet the requirements in the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(q) (HAZWOPER) standard.

Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with a break for lunch and additional short breaks at the instructor’s discretion. Casual attire is recommended.
Objective: Prepare personnel to effectively and competently assume the role of Site Safety Officer at a clandestine laboratory or other illicit hazardous environment (IHE) incident
Target Personnel: Law enforcement, fire department personnel, first responders
Prerequisites: 32-Hour Clandestine Laboratory HAZWOPER Safety training (recommended); medically cleared to wear respiratory protection; clean-shaven if being fit tested
