This program covers the types of high-hazard scenes, production methods, toxicology, sampling, field testing instruments, and, most specifically, the use and requirements of wearing Level A PPE. Participants will suit up in Level A PPE and practice processing a high-hazard scene. Students will also learn about performing pressure testing and visual inspections of the Level A PPE along with the required maintenance for the equipment.

Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with a break for lunch and additional short breaks at the instructor’s discretion. Casual attire is recommended.

Objective: Provide participants with hands-on knowledge of Level A PPE and the substances that characterize the illicit hazardous environments (IHEs) for which Level A PPE would be necessary

Target Personnel: Experienced clan lab investigators, Site Safety Officers, chemists, hazmat personnel, and other first responders to clan labs or other high-hazard scenes

Prerequisites: 32-Hour Clandestine Laboratory HAZWOPER Safety training; Site Safety Officer training (recommended); comply with any necessary medical clearances needed to wear respiratory protection and a Level A suit

Overview: This program covers the types of high-hazard scenes, production methods, toxicology, sampling, field testing instruments, and, most specifically, the use and requirements of wearing Level A PPE. Participants will suit up in Level A PPE and practice processing a high-hazard scene. Students will also learn about performing pressure testing and visual inspections of the Level A PPE along with the required maintenance for the equipment.

  • Field instruments used to identify hazards (RAMAN, FTIR, GC/MS, air monitoring equipment)

Optional Add-Ons: Students have the option to choose just the training or to receive the training plus equipment, which includes a DuPont Tychem 10000® Level A suit and hazmat boots, for an additional fee. NES also offers the pressure test kit needed for maintaining the Level A suit. If you wish to purchase one or both of these add-ons, you will be given the option to do so in the shopping cart. Please register at least six weeks in advance if purchasing any add-ons (NOTE: refund of add-on purchases is not guaranteed in the case of class and/or enrollment cancellation).
