Senior Associate Industrial Hygienist” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Jason Wunschel is a Senior Associate Industrial Hygienist for NES, Inc. (NES). He presents a range of formal classroom training courses for SWPPP, industrial hygiene, and OSHA HAZWOPER. He is a Trainer of Record (ToR) and a Qualified Industrial Storm Water Practitioner (QISP) under the California Industrial Storm Water General Permit, a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC), and a California Department of Public Health Certified Lead Inspector/Assessor. Mr. Wunschel has over eight years of experience in the fields of industrial hygiene, EH&S, and California Storm Water Industrial General Permit consulting as well as hands-on academic experience primarily focusing on microbiology and chemistry laboratory applications.

Mr. Wunschel is the Operations Manager for the California Trucking Association’s Storm Water Compliance Group. He has developed and presented a range of environmental compliance training courses for a diverse group of clients and has served as one of the group’s environmental health and safety consultants for more than seven years. He provides clients with technical assistance regarding compliance with the NPDES Industrial General Permit and, as the Operations Manager, he is responsible for daily program functions including development of storm water training manuals and presentations, SWPPP development and review, SMARTS database management and guidance, classroom and web-based training, and coordinating storm water sampling. As a ToR/QISP, Mr. Wunschel performs independent Level 1 ERA evaluations and associated reporting for member facilities entering Level 1 status. He works with each facility to identify pollutant sources and develop site-specific BMP recommendations to reduce or eliminate potential pollutant discharges. He has conducted inspections throughout California to investigate storm water pollution prevention procedures implemented at member facilities.

Mr. Wunschel has managed SWPPP development and implementation, SPCC Plan development, environmental remediation and sampling projects, and hazardous waste storage and disposal projects. He has conducted physical hazard evaluations of workplace ergonomics and hazardous noise exposure and has assisted on a variety of environmental remediation projects. Mr. Wunschel has performed industrial hygiene hazard and exposure assessments in a wide range of occupational settings, identifying pertinent control measures to be implemented in order to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses. These have included over 100 independent industrial hygiene assessments for a variety of Army National Guard facilities located throughout the western U.S. focusing on facility hazards (lighting, IAQ, HVAC system function, etc.) and personnel exposure to chemical and physical hazards. Workplace hazard assessments included personal exposure sampling, OSHA compliance evaluations, lead wipe sampling, asbestos/lead/mold, and process hazards, among others. Mr. Wunshel is also experienced in developing sampling plans and collecting various types of environmental samples, including water, soil, and air, in order to identify sources of pollution and track remediation progress.
