The Illicit Cannabis Site Safety Specialist – ICSSS (Formerly Site Safety Officer) is a vital component of any law enforcement agency’s illicit cannabis cultivation safety program. The ICSSS has the knowledge and responsibility to implement the site Health & Safety Plan and ensure compliance with laws and regulatory issues at illicit cannabis cultivation / hazardous material environments.

The ICSSS course is a tailored, exercise-intensive program designed to prepare the student to perform equipment maintenance, develop health and safety programs, and oversee first responder actions at illicit cannabis cultivation/cannabis extractions sites including:

  • Site assessment
  • Processing and collection of evidence
  • Mitigating chemical and physical hazards

Target Personnel: Law enforcement, fire department personnel, first responders. Prerequisites: 40-Hour Illicit Cannabis Operations HAZWOPER Specialist training (recommended); medically cleared to wear respiratory protection; clean-shaven if being fit tested.

Overview: The Site Safety Specialist (S3) is a vital component of any law enforcement agency’s Illicit cannabis safety program. The S3 has the knowledge and responsibility to implement the site Health & Safety Plans and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations at illicit cannabis operations. This is an exercise-intensive program designed to prepare students to perform equipment maintenance, develop health & safety programs, and oversee first responder actions at illicit cannabis operations. The course outlines the documentation, reporting, and regulatory requirements needed on-site to meet the requirements in the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iv) (HAZWOPER) standard.
